I only use headphones with this monitor and I have them plugged in the back of the monitor and by doing this it totally disables the speakers. Hope that answers your question. If you were wanting to plug the headphones in the computer, and not the monitor, you could use the monitor joystick and select settings and then sound. Next just turn the sound all the way down and that should do it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm using a Mac and I can select which sound output to use, either the Mac internal speakers, headphone jack or the monitors speakers. I'm also using HDMI cable from the Mac to monitor and that includes the sound. I don't know if the sound passes through the display port cable.

If the computer produces sound, it will then merge with the monitor so long they are connected with its HDMI. Since this monitor does have connection with a headphone jack, you should be able to use the headphones with mic without hearing any outside noise of the monitor. ~Anthony
