“What should the rough framed opening be? I keep reading about a sleeve, what is that and why do I need it? We have a regular window unit but no sleeve. Thank you”

The sleeve is used for mounting the unit through a wall not a window. Simply the sleeve gets screwed to the beams in the wall opening and the ac unit sits in the sleeve. Helps make it sturdy. It is sold separately though.

The wall sleeve has to be purchased separately and it comes with a Plastic Grille, Vertical, Horizontal, and Around Insulation Strips, a Support Block, a Baffle, a Trim Frame, Shims, and Plastic Nuts and Washers Screws that are necessary to complete the installation. The sleeve aids in supporting the unit.
