Just hooked this up yesterday; the 2 rear speakers connect via speaker wire to a receiver (not an amp). The receiver plugs into an outlet, then it connects to the soundbar wireless from the back of the room. The instructions in the box have 1 for the soundbar & woofer and then another for the rear speakers/receiver, it's an easy hookup all around, much better than just a soundbar & subwoofer. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Kamilah. The title description for the LG - 4.1-Channel Hi-Res Soundbar System with Wireless Subwoofer and Digital Amplifier, Model # SJ4R indicates that it has a digital amplifier and that amplifier is built into the Sound Bar. The difference between an amplifier and a receiver is that an amplifier alone just provides power and requires a separate pre-amp/processing unit to "control" it and provide connections for your components. you can use a preamp to control one or more separate amplifiers. there are also "integrated amplifiers" that have the preamp/processor built-in. either way requires a "tuner" in order to receive radio signals. (there are preamps with built-in tuners, too). A receiver consists of an amplifier section, a pre-amplification/processing section, AND usually a radio tuner (hence the name receiver), all in the same housing. So while an amplifier and a wireless receiver are not the same things as you stated, a receiver still has a built-in amplifier...^IFV
