I use the optical cable that came with my soundbar and connect the soundbar to the optical jack on my TV and it sounds great. That way you don't have to use up one of your HDMI jacks and can leave it them to be used for your cable box, game systems, etc. the optical cable that comes with this sound bar is thin and lightweight, and I even have it running behind the wall through A/V wall plates and it still sounds great.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If your TV is a recent model, which it sounds like, one of the HDMI ports will have an auto return channel or ARC which will allow the TV set to communicate with the sound bar. You will not lose an HDMI port as it is duplicated on the sound bar itself and will connect to that ARC HDMI port. However you can connect the Apple TV via the optical but you will only be able to use the sound bar with the Apple TV. Your third option is the in HDMI port on the sound bar itself, you would use and HDMI cable from the Apple TV to the input sound bar, then output port from the sound bar to the input on the TV. Either options used you will be able to connect tot he TV and not lose an HDMI.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Other than the HDMI inout ports, the other 2 ways to connect to the LG 4.1ch 360W Music Flow Wi-Fi streaming Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer is either through the Optical Digital Input or through the 3.5 mm Portable Audio (headphone jack) Input. If your TV has both or either one of those then you can connect it appropriately otherwise if not if your cable set top box has an HDMI output or an Optical Digital Output you can connect to that for the TV sound since that is what you would be hearing when watching TV programs...^IFV
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. For me the best way to solve your predicament is to connect the Apple TV directly to the soundbar via HDMI and the use the optical out from the TV to the sound bar and also connect the HDMI Out from the sound bar to the TV to get the Apple TV video.
