“I currently have a front-load washer and I have a terrible time with mold/mildew building up on the seal. I never had this issue with my top load. Can you tell me what your experiences have been with this issue for the LG.”

I used to work on appliances had this quite often there is already bacteria inside the drum on all washers I would recommend running a a fresh cleaning tablet through the washer a couple of times just to try to clean out any extra size bacteria. That may be inside the unit and then when you are not using it, be sure to leave the door open. It is a necessity on these front load washers, so that the seal does not grow mold!!
