“When dryer is set to "Normal" the clothes come out extremely hot and smelling like petroleum. I would never dry most clothes at this temperature.”

I’ve not had the smell issue. The clothes do come out hot!! The steam drys differently. I’m sure you have noticed how long the drying takes, it certainly does not harm the clothes.
