“Does water remain in the washer causing mold-mildew? I want to go back to a top load washer because I don't like the mold problem of front loaders. Is the water that remains in the washer really because of the HE wash technology and not the front or top load issue? Will I have the same problem with a top load? Do I need to keep the lid open when not in use?”

Hello Nana. Thank you for your inquiry. Regardless of what type of washer you use, there is always going to be a certain amount of water left. Water has cohesive properties so it will stick to the insides of the wash tub. The LG - 5.0 Cu. Ft. 12-Cycle Mega-Capacity High-Efficiency Top-Loading Washer - Model # WT1701CW, being a Top-Load Washer will have lees water remaining after the water drains out compared to a Front Loader, but if the washer will not be used for several days, leave the lid open overnight to allow the tub to dry. What really leads to mildewy or musty smells are some environmental or usage conditions that can cause residue to build up in the tub. This washer has a Tub Clean cycle that is specially designed to remove this buildup using bleach or another cleaners designed specifically for cleaning washing machines.
