“We're finally moving up from our ancient CRT TV, with which we use a convertor box and bunny ears (not even cable!) to get the standard channels. When we buy the 48" LG OLED CX, do we need to get cable TV? How will it receive TV signals? Thanks!”

This tv has its own built in tv service. So you will get channels but it won’t be your regular lineup with local channels

You can use an antenna. This TV has built in tuners ATSC and Clear QAM. ATSC is used to receive digital channels over the air. QAM is used to receive digital channels from a cable TV provider without use of a cable box. ^Daphane

I can’t speak from direct experience because I am using cable, but I know that it has a tuner and a connector for a coaxial antenna line. The first time that I turned it on, it was set to pull channels off the air, but I couldn’t get anything because I don’t have an antenna. You should investigate antennas for digital television. I know that they exist.
