Yes. It will play regular DVDs.

Yes - it even plays disks I recorded from the TV with no trouble. There is 2 things I don't like about this DVD player. 1. It has no counter so you can see how much longer the dvd has to play or where you left off, if you have to take it out and re-insert it to view at another time and; 2. Sometimes you have to press the buttons twice on the remote. Other than that the picture quality is good.
