The connection would be based on which output provides the best sound and picture. I know with the XBOX One S, the only way I can achieve both ATMOS Sound with 4K HDR is using the HDMI connection. One way to check if you are getting ATMOS sound, is by selecting the info button on the remote control for the SJ9. It should display on the LG sound bar what the current sound that it is decoding at the time. If this does not display ATMOS, then it not getting the correct sound output. YouTube may have some helpful videos to help as well.
