“With the 5.1.2 Ch. can you increase dialogue volume without increasing background music or special effects? Currently, my LG sound bar the dialogue (or actors' voices) are softer than the background - one is too loud during war scenes, car chases, etc?”

To answer your question, no. You have very little control over the equalizer type settings on this soundbar. However, you do have different modes. Nightmode helps even out the sounds and takes away the deep base. My experience, streaming 4K Atmos content from an Nvidia Shield to the SJ9 through HDMI, the voices are extremely clear and can be played at low volume without the need to bump the volume up and down throughout the movie. This is the first audio system that I can play TV and Movie content at low volume and hear every word. For this capability alone the SJ9 was worth the purchase. Another quick disclaimer, some audio is poorly mixed by the studios. This means no matter what the system you have, the system itself will require to process the content to even out the sounds or you will get the massive range of volume throughout the show.
