“Some reviews have mentioned no 4k 120hz pass through as a deal breaker. I was under the assumption that you could instead hook your console up to your TV via HDMI 2.1 for 4k 120hz and send the audio to the soundbar via ARC... Or is this an incorrect way?”

You are correct. And its even better if your tv supports e arc. Which the soundbar does as well...
