“After installation, there is a 3 inch gap between the top back of the range and the wall. Is this normal? Not the greatest look, and creates the opportunity for things to fall behind the oven.”

There's a metal grill the attaches to the back of the stove to fill the gap, but in our kitchen, the gas shutoff valve sticks out higher than the indentation on the back of the stove that is intended to allow the stove to fit tighter to the wall. I think the building standards for the positioning of the gas cock might have changed over time. Our condo was built 40 years ago and codes have changed.
