1)Settings for a bright room are in the eye of the beholder, most settings focus on dark rooms because its how we watch our movies in the theater and so on. So it's a matter of playing with the settings and the presets to determine what works for you and the room.
2)Game mode will do its best to adapt to the fact that video games move faster and having variations in color that you will not see in normal TV/movies. For gaming it is perfect, in every other respect, you can skip it.
