“I’m looking at the LG CX OLED 55 inch. In older models (from years ago) the sound quality was poor in the thin TV’s and one had to buy a sound bar accessory. Is this required/recommended in the new models or has the sound quality been improved enough?”

A tv just does not have the capabilities that dedicated sound bars and home theaters do. That being said, this TV does have great sound output for a TV. Better than some premium panels I've had in the past. But you cannot compare tv speakers to dedicated sound systems, as they are completely different.

No I don’t believe it has improved . We have the LG OLED CX 55” Our internal speaker rattles and it is barely over 30 days old. I don’t know how sound quality was in the past but it is not good in ours.
