The built in speakers are the most often criticized feature of this TV. Yes, it would be wise to purchase either a soundbar or surround sound system.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I use a bose wireless headset make sure it bluetooth that i bought for my ipad mini 3 its got theatre type sound when i watch blu-rays and i can use it to watch cable or anything on this tv and it does recognize dolby atmos to with my headset on.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No you do not need speakers as the built in speakers are rather nice compared to my last TV. BUT !! If you want to get a more rich sound with better bass I highly recommend a good quality sound bar with satellite speakers and a sub woofer. So far the QLED TV is fantastic.
