No, it is not convection all of the time. The description of the oven is unclear, so I asked the same question. I was told that if you choose to use that setting it automatically calculates the time based on the time it would ordinarily bake, but I have never tried it. I will say, this oven bakes the best of the 3 I've had over the last several years. I really do like it. And the eyes on the top heat up quickly, as well.
