• The unit itself is less than 20 inches. It can be installed in a 20 inch opening without the side panels. You will simple need to visit your local home center and purchase AC insulation material to fill from your window jam extension to the edge of the AC unit.

• I believe the width is under 18", so it depends on whether you want to use the included pieces to seal it in. That might make it a little tight. If you do like I did and build pieces to fit it in the window (I had an oddly configured window) you will be just fine.
