I was able to partition by 3Tb GPT hard disk into 2 x 1.5TB MBR hard disk using Free MiniTool partition software. After doing that my Samsung TV is detecting and playing it.

The drive should be formatted with the FAT32 or NTFS file system and it should have a rated voltage of 5V or less and a rated amperage of 500 mA or less. Most, if not all TVs, regardless of brand or manufacturer, will not recognize hard drives larger than 2 TB because they rely on a partitioning format called GPT (GUID Partition Table), which allows the entire capacity of the drive to be usable on a computer system. However, that same partitioning format may not be recognized by TVs. If you plug a GPT-based drive into a TV, it might show up as being recognized by the TV, but it will not be able to display any of the information that you may have previously put onto it. You would need to re-partition the drive so that it uses an MBR (Master Boot Record) partition instead which is not an ideal solution because it means that only up to 2TB of space will be usable on a 3TB or 4TB hard drive. This space will be wasted, but at least now there will be a chance that your new drive will be detected and read by a TV. Make sure that you have a copy of all your data on another drive prior to changing the partition because all data on the disk will be erased if you attempt to change the drive's partition type from GPT to MBR...^IFV
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Maybe a little late, but just for current info: I have LG - 60" Class UN7000 Series LED 4K UHD Smart webOS TV. I plug a USB splitter into it and 4 hard drives into that. They vary from 4-6 TB's each. They all show up as separate drives on my tv and are easy to navigate. They do take about a minute to show up in the input list once I turn the tv on. The only problems I run into is that the TV video player will not play DTS audio.
