Local dimming seems to be limited to "vertical bars" that can go black when needed. Mostly, this can be disconcerting if left on - for example, a black screen with a text title taking up about 1/4 of the screen width will appear with a grey background from top to bottom of the screen just in that area. If your broadcast has an annoying logo in the lower right corner, and it is solid white, that part of the screen will be gray, top to bottom when the rest can be black. This may be due to the fact that this is an edge-lit set.
