I haven't heard anything happening like that. We just bought our TV like this. We bought the 2 year warranty so we could take it back with no questions asked for 2 years. TVs are so much cheaper now. It's probably better to get new than to fix. We have hulu too, so the money we're saving on Cable could literally buy an new tv every 6 months.
