Two of the hdmi ports are hdmi 2.1 and if you're using those hdmi ports, you get the best quality. Otherwise, tv is smart enough to detect what your device is outputting. Even powers on my tv and changes to my 4k blu ray input simply by turning on my blu ray player

You don't have to do anything to switch to 4K. The TV has 4K upscaling that increases the incoming resolution to render on the 4K screen. ^Daphane
