“Is there ever an issue with the control panel in front if it were to get wet, like in transfer of loads? Is that a common issue or is it something that does not happen often if at all?”

The recommendation is to not set anything on top of the dryer; I have a laundry basket in which I toss my wet clothes from the washer before putting them in the dryer if I have a previous load drying.
