I believe it depends on your cable provider. For example, I have DIRECTV and only a few stations broadcast in 4K (1 channel you can rent movies on, the other just random shows like concerts and outdoor stuff). Hopefully more will be added soon. The TV appears to pick up whatever the cable provider is broadcasting for example, 1080, 720 etc.
