I connected the external cd drive to my WIN10 PC & placed the cd-rom that comes with the external cd drive into the external cd drive. The cd-rom installed a suite of software onto my WIN10 PC. In that suite, there's software that plays my blu-ray disks, dvds & music cds on my WIN10 PC. Works great & it's easy to use.

Windows 10 should recognize the device when you connect it and also load the drivers. Yes, you can use the device then to load the adds bloat ware.
