TV Connectivity on the LG 8x External USB 2.0 Blu-ray Disc Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Disc Rewriter, Model # BP50NB40 allows you to enjoy media on a TV, by simply connecting the drive with a USB cable. As per the instructions in the owner's manual for the drive, the product is defaulted to ODD mode when it is powered on. With the tray open, press and hold the 'Eject' button for 2 seconds. The LED indicator will turn on, switching to TV mode. Insert your supported media into the drive. I have not yet purchased this player, so can't say from experience. Between the answer given here and the owner's manual, we have contradicting information. The owner's manual states: • DVD/Blu-ray movie titles and album titles cannot be played when using TV connectivity Which implies you cannot play a DVD OR Blu-ray disc on a TV. There's no way this is accurate, as the device obviously supports playback of SOMETHING on a TV. Elsewhere in the manual, it states: • Supports BD 3D Movie Play. But it does not specify whether this is for PC only or both, PC and TV (I suspect only on PC, but I could be wrong). Finally, we have: • The Mac OS & Windows OS do not include an application that can play Blu-ray movie titles. Separate playback software for Mac OS must be used to play Blu-ray movie titles through Mac OS. This doesn't address whether there are additional requirements to play Blu-ray on Windows, or not. Here's an really helpful article describing the types of disc media (along with what type of disc you should buy for what you want to do). This kind of information SHOULD be standard for all external drives: https://www.pcworld.com/article/2012081/rom-r-r-rw-understanding-the-optical-drive-alphabet-soup.html
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It has a USB interface so it will not directly plug into an HDMI Port. I think if using a USB port on a TV it depends on whether the TV recognizes the player. Since it is a BLURAY player it isn't likely on many.
