• Yes you can. Just be aware that this drive requires two USB ports to function. The cord it comes with has a short Y type splitter so the USB port placement is important. If you have two USB ports next to each other you will have no problem, but if they are on opposite sides of the laptop, you will need an extension to reach the other side.

• You can use it to install software from just about any disk format. Or read data, play movies or music and so on. Upload is a term referring to transferring data from your device to a website/internet. So your question is not clear. It is also able to burn discs in many formats.
