• The second USB plug supplies more power in case your computer does not supply enough for the drive with a single port. I have an HP and use it with just one of the plugs, and it works fine.

• Personally I have only needed to use one usb to use the player, you should know however that to play blu ray movies you do need to install the software it comes with.
