I just had a similar problem. I went back to Best Buy and was told that as long as the computer is connected to the internet, one does not need the software CD at all. I tested this theory when I got home by inserting a music CD when I connected the device. Presto! the iMac now recognized the device and I transferred the music to my computer with no problem or difficulty. I haven't tried to burn a CD, or anything else, so I don't know if there will be a problem controlling that without the software CD, but my computer came with an application called "iDVD" so I'll have to investigate what that does.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.A software disc comes with this unit. Download the software and the DVD player will automatically start once you insert a DVD or CD disc. Hope this helps!
