I have this exact same issue, and unfortunately they cannot be switched. I've been putting all the washed clothes into a basket, sliding it over, and putting it in the dryer. The hose kit that I bought with it is plenty long though so I'm going to swap mine around and lengthen the dryer vent so I can have the washer on the left.
