Hi Elaine. Fitting this refrigerator into a 36" opening will not be an issue. The ENERGY STAR® Certified LG 25.5 Cu. Ft. French Door Counter-Depth Smart Refrigerator with InstaView® - Stainless Steel, Model # LRFOC2606S is designed to fit into an opening of 36". The refrigerator has a width of 35 3/4" and the recommended installation clearance spacing for the sides is 1/8".
