It's really light, but like all microwave boxes, it has a heavy side, and a light side. I don't know why so many people asked that question, but it seems pretty light to me, just awkward due to the 'heavy side'... Why a heavy side? They need a big transformer, capacitor and the magnetron to drive the unit. Without it, nothing cooks. It's basically a microwave transmitter that operates in a box that bounces the rays around to excite the moisture in the item being exposed to the radiation. Yeah, early microwave relay towers could cook birds and other things in the line of sight from the transmitter. Freaky...
