I have not had the problem you describe. I was a bit confused with the panel at first. But I discovered the touch bar on the outer door, which allows you to slide to the necessary time, up to almost two minutes, then I push start, and everything works well. It took me a bit longer to learn that the actual touch pad on the inside (with the door open) is used for actual programming, then you shut the door and push start.
