You may need to switch the laptop's output to the headphones. I believe on a PC you click on the little volume thing and open the settings to do this.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.More than likely you need to go into your sound settings and set your computer to recognize them as the default speakers while they are attached. When you disconnect/turn off the ear buds your computer should go back to the last setting for speaker selection.
