my owner's manual says to avoid putting water proof items in machine. apparently, those articles can throw off the balance of the machine and affect cleaning also.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you can use your washer for water resistant items. My husband is a cyclist and wears Gortex jackets and specialized biking and cross country skiing clothing and I use my washer for them. It is recommended by the manufacturer to never use fabric softener on these types of items as it disrupts the weatherproofing mechanism in the fabric. I wash them on cold in a delicate cycle and hang to dry.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'd highly suggest going with a product called Nikwax (sold at outdoors shops, Rei, etc). It is specially formulated for your technical gear (a la Goretex), they also have special types for waterproofing cotton items (like a mattress pad). The bottles tell you how much to use in your machine and what sort of cycle to use.
