If you can copy all the movie files, it should be able to be transferred to a DVD on this portable external drive. I made backup copies of Office and QuickBooks program disks with it, and everything copied all right.

Yes you can. That is one of the ways I utilize this drive, but keep in mind that you will have to use a third party software to do so.
