I have personally used the Thunderbolt 5 cable straight to the back of the monitor. You will get full resolution with HDR and 165Hz using that cable straight from the laptop to the USB-C port on the back of the monitor. Tested with my 16-inch M4 max

Your monitor offers: 1 × DisplayPort 1.4 input (DP 1.4 maxes out at ~32 Gbps) 2 × HDMI 2.1 inputs (HDMI 2.1 supports up to 48 Gbps) Because DP 1.4 can’t carry the full bandwidth needed for 5 120 × 2 160 @ 165 Hz, you’ll get the best performance using HDMI 2.1. Since your MacBook Pro M4 Max includes an HDMI 2.1 port, simply connect a certified Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 cable from your Mac’s HDMI output to one of the monitor’s HDMI 2.1 inputs. This setup will support the full 5K2K resolution at 165 Hz. If you’d rather use a Thunderbolt 5 port, you can—but you’ll need a Thunderbolt 5-to-HDMI 2.1 adapter (rated for 48 Gbps) to achieve the same result. A direct USB-C (Thunderbolt) to DisplayPort 1.4 cable will still be limited by the DP 1.4 bandwidth, so it won’t unlock the full spec. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-ultragear-45-oled-dual-mode-5k2k-wuhd-165hz-wfhd-330hz-0-03ms-g-sync-freesync-premium-pro-gaming-monitor-black/6619492.p?skuId=6619492 For any additional assistance or to explore cable and adapter recommendations, please send us a private message on social media @LGUSSupport and our team will be more than happy to explore possible solutions. —Renzo
