• I have gotten a "robust" (larger than standard iPhone cable) connector to fit - but the "robust" connector on cables from "Amazon Basics" do NOT work with any Lifeproof case I've used. If possible, try the cable before you buy it - or try the Otterbox Defender case - not waterproof, but very protective otherwise.

• It depends on the cable. I've got a non-apple Lightning cable and it works just fine.

• Nope. Apple specifically designs theirs so that you HAVE to buy their patented one. Their marketing department is on point; good for them, bad for us.
