I have yet to get any unlocks with fingerprint and the case on
 Take it off and it works fine....yes it defeats the purpose. (I tested it thinking it was the phone but it's only the case preventing it from reading)

No, the fingerprint will still read, but is a little more finicky. I would say that its better than a 50/50 shot at getting it to work first time, but probably not much better.

Well sometimes you do. but it works 95% of the time. Sometimes you have to make sure its very clean or redo the print.

No you still have the option to use your fingerprint to unlock the phone. There's a thin film cover that covers the home button that still let's you use your fingerprint.
