“Does the second 5 GHz Band only connect with additional nodes ? If I set this system up with just the router unit, will the second 5GHz frequency still help with congestion for multiple devices or would I essentially be using only the 2.5 and one 5ghz ?”

Hi. The Linksys MR8300 supports simultaneous tri-band which means that you can use the three network bands at the same time.

It automatically choose the type of speed you need depending on how far or close you are from the smart router. You don’t have to tell which speed you want 2.4 or 5 Ghz Hopefully this can help you out......Good luck
