A:Answer That modem you are using will work fine with this router, or any other really, as long as your modem is still functional. A router will not be able to replace a modem, if that is what you need. A router is for receiving either an internet or local connection from a modem, switch, client device, or another router. The router then shares that connection with other devices either wirelessly or with ethernet cables. A modem is still needed to take a connection from your internet provider over different things like coax cable, satellite, or in your case a phone line, and basically serve as an ethernet cable adapter.
Your modem is actually kinda neat because it has a switch built into it, there are 4 ethernet ports on the back. If you don't need wireless internet, you don't even need anything other than your modem. If you need more than 4 wired devices, you can save money and get an ethernet switch instead of a router. Keep in mind that most routers offer security features depending how you set them up, and ethernet switches do not.
