The first question that I would ask you since you used the words "IBM computer windows" is what version of Windows are you running, Since IBM stop making personal computers over a decade ago (2005 to be exact) your reference makes me question the version of Microsoft Window operating system you are running. If you are only using an ethernet cable to connect to a router then there will not be any problems. If you are connecting via an older WIFI protocol such as 802.11a or 802.11b then there could be issues with security compatibility as many new routers have phased out WEP encryption. So wireless connectivity with new router models could become an issue with old versions of the Windows operating system.
