This is not a modem, it is a stand alone router. It has no internet function until a modem is hooked to this device to route your signal to your peripheral devices by wire or wireless.

What I would say is that this router is largely overkill for those internet speeds (because it's capabilities far exceed your network demands), but having said that, this router would more than handle your 50mb/s connection effortlessly. If you're referring to an actual modem (and not mistakenly calling a router a modem) then literally anything is better than the modems we receive from our ISPs. I could probably find a way to wire some old TV rabbit ears into a more effective modem than those provided to us. Again, since you're using a 50 mb/s plan, chances are the modem they provided to you is well-qualified to handle it.
