Although I don't currently have this model, I will say the current wifi extender I use I done the same thing as you, I ran a 75' cable from my homes built in ethernet wall jack to my shed and simply plugged a ethernet cable from the wall jack to one of the ports in the back of my extender, in the shed I installed a 5port switch and computers I hard wired to the switch, then put a old wireless router on the switch so I could have a wifi signal inside the shed for my phone. Works great. The wifi extender is in Extender mode not Access point.
