• Hi. It's not necessary, as long as the range extender is not too far or does not have too many physical obstructions that can affect the signal between it and the main router.

• In my 36' RV, fulltimer, I put it in the center of my RV and it works fine! I also let my neighbor use the signal, they say they love it, great signal !

• This extender only needs LoS for initial setup afterwards you may place it wherever you may need extra range as long as it can receive signal from the router. During setup it will guide you to a location for optimal performance depending on the distance and placement from the router, in my case optimal performance was achieved between 25-35ft. from the router.
