Can I switch from 2.5 to 5 G and switch back as needed null

Hi, DNice. You can select which band or network you will connect your devices to either 2.4GHz or 5GHz with the Linksys E5400 Dual-Band AC1200 Router.

Depends on the device you are connecting to WiFi. Both are available all the time.
