This router is Not a modem. It is a great router that will provide WiFi and direct connections. However, it is not a modem. As far as the modems go... It depends on the speed of your internet as to what you need. My personal preference is that I do NOT like the all in one modem/router combos. If you are going 250mbs and above... Get a modem that is on your carriers approved list and get it with as many download and upload channels as you can. 4 band, 8 band, 16 band etc. This is not referring to the WiFi bands... Such as 2.4ghz and 5.1ghz. I mean the number of active download bands you can have at one time.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No, it is going a router. I got a new router from Spectrum, no lease, and i am getting constant speed tests of 220Mb or more. I also added a Wi-Fi extender, my own choice, it wasn't really necessary. It was very easy to add, step by step.
