You have to use paper specific for livescribed but you can get notesbooks as low as 8 dollars if you don't want to spend money then you can print it online... it is worth the investment for saving time and productivity I highly recommended it!

In order for the software to detect the pens movement to transfer to your electronic device you have to use special paper. You can purchase more so are not limited to the amount it comes with. The pen will still write on any standard paper though.
