• Short answer - yes it need an adapter! but be cautious which one. Explanation - xbox controllers are designed to use one 3.5 mm plug for sound and mic combined. Look at 3.5 mm plug on a headset specifically designed for the xbox and you will see 4 silver bands separated by plastic - the bands are used as follows - 1 band for ground, one band for left, one for right, and one for a mono mic.. 4 banded jacks are needed by xbox for stereo and mic in one jack. This headset has TWO SEPARATE JACKS, so you would need a very special adapter (radio shack) to convert it to one jack, and then another adapter for many xbox controllers. That means this headset needs two adapters for many controllers. Buy a headset that specifically says it is designed for the xbox you have.
