Think of this unit as a "Bluetooth receiver." Something is going to send signal and the unit receives the data and translates it to the speakers. If your computer has Bluetooth capability you wouldn't need this. But if you want to send music from your phone to a set of speakers this unit is simple and works great. It does require AC current, however.

It isn't a transmitter, its a receiver. It receives the Bluetooth signal from the source so you can use a remote speaker. If your speakers are already Bluetooth compatible, your computer must have Bluetooth capability.
